Short answer

Oxygen 6 turns off your theme and loads its own empty one. Until you build Oxygen templates, single posts print only their title. Turn off Oxygen and its two Breakdance add-ons to get your theme back, or build a Single Post template on a staging copy first. Then clear your page cache.

On this page

What you’ll see

  • Every post shows its title and a “Skip to main content” link, and nothing else.
  • The homepage may still look fine, so it’s easy to miss.
  • With a page cache in front, some visitors keep getting old full pages for a while (60 minutes in our setup), so it looks random.

How we reproduced it

  1. Uploaded and switched on Oxygen 6.2.0-beta.9 on a site using a classic theme, with no Oxygen templates.
  2. Asked for a post with a throwaway query string, so nginx couldn’t serve a cached copy.
  3. Counted the paragraphs in the page that came back.
curl -s "https://example.com/any-post/?nocache=$(date +%s)" | grep -c "<p"

Expected output while broken: 0

Why it happens

When Oxygen 6 is on, it overrides WordPress’s theme setting and loads its own blank theme, Oxygen Zero. Your database still says the old theme is active, but WordPress doesn’t use it. With no Single Post template, nothing prints the post content.

Fix 1: turn Oxygen off

This is the fastest fix. In wp-admin, open Plugins and deactivate Oxygen, Breakdance Elements for Oxygen and Breakdance Forms for Oxygen. Your theme comes straight back and nothing is deleted. From the command line:

wp plugin deactivate oxygen breakdance-elements-for-oxygen breakdance-forms-for-oxygen

Fix 2: clear the page cache

After Fix 1, cached blank pages can hang around. Empty the nginx FastCGI cache, the folder set by fastcgi_cache_path. Then purge Cloudflare too if it caches your HTML.

sudo find /var/cache/nginx/YOUR_ZONE -mindepth 1 -delete

Fix 3: build templates first

Use this if you want to keep Oxygen.

  1. Copy the site to a staging subdomain that’s hidden from search and password-protected.
  2. Switch on Oxygen there and create templates for Header, Footer, Single Post (with the Template Content Area element), Archive, Search and 404.
  3. Check every kind of page shows its content, then move the templates to the live site and switch Oxygen on last.

Check it worked

Fetch a post without the cache and see which theme served it:

curl -s "https://example.com/any-post/?v=$(date +%s)" | grep -o "wp-content/themes/[a-z0-9-]*" | sort -u

Expected output when fixed: wp-content/themes/your-theme. On our site the same post came back with 1,297 words.

Undo

Activate the three plugins again. Your Oxygen settings are kept while they’re off.

What didn’t work

Switching back to the old theme under Appearance, then Themes while Oxygen was on. WordPress kept loading Oxygen’s blank theme.
